Found in Cabarrus County, Concord is a city that also serves as the county seat. Currently, more than 79,000 residents make their home in the city. At present, Concord is the largest city found in the county.
Considered part of the Charlotte metropolitan area, Concord was first settled in the mid-18th century by German and Scot-Irish immigrants. The name of the city itself is translated as harmony. Settling on a name was anything but harmonious, as the German Lutherans and Scotch-Irish Presbyterians within the area disputed what it should be and exactly where the county seat would be located.
Incorporated in 1806, Concord became a trade center in an area where cotton was king. Textile plans thrived in the area, which in turn brought many shops and other types of businesses to Concord. A number of the original structures remain and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
