Located in Bergen County, Montvale is a borough that’s home to more than 8,500 residents. As is true for a number of boroughs in New Jersey. Montvale was created when portions of Washington Township and Orville Township were used to create it in 1894. In the years following, Montvale gained additional land from both of those townships, as well as some land from the Upper Saddle River. Along toward the middle of the 20th century, lands were exchanged between Montvale, River Vale, and the Upper Saddle River.
Over time, Montvale has acquired the nickname of “the pride of the Pascack Valley.” The inspiration for the official name is partly the number of vales found by the area’s earliest settlers.
Today, Montvale is home to a number of large companies. Two of the corporations that have their headquarters in the borough are the US arm of the Japanese firm Sharp Corporation, and the Benjamin Moore Company, known as one of the premiere pain companies in the country.
