Located in the central part of Salt Lake County, Holladay is home to more than 27,000 residents. As with some other cities in the area, it has undergone significant population growth since 1990. Officially incorporated in 1999 as Holladay-Cottonwood, the name was shortened to simply Holladay within a month of the incorporation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Holladay was first settled by a group of Latter-day Saint settlers known as the Mississippi Company in 1847. Many of the company choose to return to the Salt Lake Valley as winter approached, but a few prepared shelters and chose to remain. In the spring, a number of people returned and helped to permanently establish the settlement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the names of Holladay’s Settlement and Holladay’s Burgh, the settlement has the distinction of being the first established just outside the main settlement in the Salt Lake Valley. It\u2019s also said that Holladay is the oldest continually populated settlement in Utah, since Salt Lake City was evacuated for a time in 1857 when the US Army occupied the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
