Assessment: This deck was heavily weathered, with an inconsistent coating throughout. The prior topcoat was applied years ago and some of the grains in the wood were starting to separate, creating horizontal gaps. It was weathered more on the stairs, as they were more exposed to the elements. The floors still needed restoration but were in a little better shape because they were covered by the soffits on the back of the home. LIME suggested going with a tad darker color to match the new paint on the home.
Advice: LIME power washed the deck, steps, railings, stairs, and skirting. After allowing proper drying time, we scraped and spot sanded any areas where product failure was present or boards were dry or splintering. (Note: LIME recommended deep sanding the entire surface, however the client wanted a recoat only.) Next, product was applied over the entire deck. There were a few areas that needed a slight coverage coat to even out the look as best as possible without sanding. The client was pleased and we finished just in time for them to entertain friends and family.
