Facts about Alpine, Utah

Found along the slopes of the Wasatch Range and due north of Highland and American Fork, Alpine is a city found in Utah County. The western border of the city runs adjacent to the Wasatch Fault. Just a 32-mile drive from Salt Lake City, Alpine is currently home to more than 10,000 residents.

As is true for many communities in Utah, Alpine was first settled by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. William Wordsworth and his family were among the first to settle in the area. After those first families arrived in the autumn of 1850, the planning for the settlement began in earnest. By 1851, the community had adopted the name of Mountainville.

Enough settlers had joined the community within a few years to merit incorporation. In January of 1855, the town of Alpine came into being.

While considered a small town, education is a key element in the local culture. Five different schools serve the area. Biking and hiking enthusiasts are attracted to Alpine for the high number of mountain biking trails and plenty of hiking routes that are located nearby. Swimming and camping are also activities that draw a number of visitors to Alpine.
