Old Town Stair Restoration

This beautiful brick home in Old Town Triangle was built in 1916. The owners have taken incredible care of their property over the years and it shows. This second project that LIME did for them was focused on the back deck and stairs.

The wood is Ipe, also called Brazilian walnut (Pronounced E-Pay). It is a beautiful exotic wood from Central and South America. The wood is incredibly dense with a tight grain making it ideal for decking. However, these same attributes make it so it does not absorb stain and coatings.

Fortunately, Rymar Industries, a veteran owned company in Wisconsin sold locally by Sherwin-Williams, has their Extoric Forest line that is specifically formulated for wood like Ipe. It is a special blend of tung oil, supreme linseed oil and other proprietary resins that help penetrate the surface of exotic hardwoods and softwoods that provides a flat finish. It also has additives the deter insects and animals from chewing on the wood.

After an extensive sanding to eliminate the weathered portions of their wood, we applied a thin coat of Rymar Exotic forest to make their back deck area a focal point of the yard again.
