About This Project:

For this 21st century red brick Worker’s Cottage home in Lincoln Park, Chicago, the primary scope was completed by one of our masons:

• The front steps were repaired offering a great improvement cosmetically as well as improving safety.
• Lintels were installed over a number of glass block windows as when the previous owner had the glass blocks put in, they failed to put lintels. This was causing cracks over time as the full load of bricks was resting on the glass blocks.
• The masons also installed a limestone sill under a window that never had one as that space used to be a glass block window.
• And last, tuckpointing was done on the upper front corners of the house as well as the side of the entry stairs.

Once the masons work was completed, our paint crew came in to recoat all lintels. We started by wire brushing and sanding away any rust. We then applied a coat of rust inhibiting primer prior to top coating with SherCryl, an industrial/marine coating formulated for metal substrates in the Sherwin color Fired Brick (SW6335).

The homeowners were also having issues with moisture damage on the interior of their home, so our painters sealed the rooftop deck and back balconies to the brick walls with elastomeric caulk to minimize water absorption.
