Greektown Limewash

LIME Painting was contracted for a residential project for limewashing a condo in the Greektown area of Chicago. Limewash is a labor intensive process involving a coat of specialized primer and two coats of the limewash paint applied with the appropriate brush.

Color was vital for the client in each area. To this end, LIME produced multiple sample boards of various colors to ensure that the end result was exactly what the client wanted.  

We always start with prepping the surface by applying spackle or joint compound to any defects in the walls and ensuring that the joint caulk lines are clean. Any areas where repairs are performed must also be sanded smooth, wiped clean, and spot primed with a drywall primer. Then a full coat of specialty limewash primer is needed which can be rolled.

We then applied two coats of limewash by brush. You have to cut in the limewash as you go to ensure that you have a wet edge and that there isn’t a limewash “frame” to the elevations.
