Found in Harris County, Texas, Bellaire is located within what’s known as the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area. With a population of just under 17,000, the city is known as the City of Homes. This is due to the fact that Bellaire is composed mainly of residential neighborhoods.
Established in 1908, Bellaire was given the name in reference to the good air found in the area. There is also a theory that the name may have to do with Bellaire, Ohio, since the city’s founder had a connection to that Ohio city. Formal incorporation took place in 1918, when the new city had increased to a population of 200.
As with other cities in the area, Bellaire underwent a population boom after World War II. Competition with those cities led to increased attention to the development of parks and recreational facilities, welcoming new restaurants and entertainment venues into selected areas, and ensuring that the school system was among the best in the area.
Today, Bellaire continues to provide suburban living for those who commute to Houston for employment. Maintaining small town charm while offering modern amenities, the city offers a balance of quiet living with access to entertainment and other amenities within a short distance.
