Found in Dallas County, Bluffview is an upscale neighborhood located in the northern part of the city of Dallas. The community is bordered by Preston Hollow to the north, Devonshire along the east, Elm Thicket and North Park to the sough, and the Shorecrest and Cochran’s Chapel neighborhoods along the west. Currently, Bluffview is home to more than 10,000 residents.
The establishment of Bluffview is considered part of the trend for developing farmland into neighborhoods beginning in the 1920s. Real estate developer J.P. Stephenson purchased what had been a dairy farm in 1924. The entire purchase amounted to 215 acres. Dubbing the project Bluff View Estates, Stephenson began to divide the land into one-acre lots.
The original plans called for a portion of Bluff View Estates to reside in the then-municipality of Preston Hollow toward the latter part of the 1930s. Instead, the area, now known as Bluffview, became part of Dallas through annexation in March of 1943.
Public and private schools for K-12 serve the residents. As part of the Dallas County Community College District, Bluffview residents have access to higher education by means of seven community collections operating fourteen campuses within Dallas County.
