Located in Hamilton County, Anderson is a township that’s found 13 miles from downtown Cincinnati. Currently, more than 44,000 people make their homes in the township. The current population makes Anderson one of the most populous townships in the state of Ohio.
What would become Anderson was first settled in 1788. The gradual development of a settlement led to the organization of a township in 1793. It’s said that Anderson is named for Richard Clough Anderson Sr., who was the chief surveyor for the Virginia Military District at the time the township was organized.
Agriculture remained the primary industry in the area until after World War II. As more people began to move into the area, retailers and other types of businesses followed. For an almost 30-year period, Anderson gained on average another thousand residents per annum.
Today, the township continues to serve as a bedroom community for Cincinnati, as well as supporting several historic sites. It’s also recognized for its conservation efforts, In 2009, the National Arbor Day Foundation recognized Anderson Township as a Tree City USA municipality.
