Formally known as The City of The Village of Indian Hill, the city is found in Hamilton County. Considered a wealthy suburb of Cincinnati, Indian Hill is home to more than 5,700 people. First incorporated as a village, Indian Hill became a city in 1970.
For much of its 19th century history, Indian Hill was thought of as a farming community. The establishment of a line of the Little Miami Railroad enhanced the ability to enjoy quick and affordable rail freight shipping and transportation. The result was that from 1904 onward, interest in Indian Hill increased.
As the 20th century progressed, more people began to purchase land and farmhouses in the area. For a time, the primary purpose was to provide wealthier citizens of Cincinnati and the surrounding area with summer homes. After World War II, more people began to make their primary homes in the village.
Today, Indian Hill remains zoned specifically for single-family dwellings and for agriculture. From the 1970s on, the city has been the site of several motion picture filmings, as well as certain houses used for exterior film shoots.
