Located in Warren County, Lebanon is a city that also serves as the county seat. Considered part of Cincinnati’s metropolitan area, Lebanon is currently home to more than 20,600 residents. The city is known for it’s historic sites and it’s support of the arts.
The first recorded settlers in the area date back to 1796. Plans for a town began to come together quickly. By 1802, the basic plans for platting the area were in place. Those plans included utilizing property donated by Ichabod Corwin, Silas Hurin, Ephraim Hathaway, and Samuel Manning.
The name of the town was inspired by references found in the Bible. The similarity of the red cedars found in the countryside reminded the founders of the cedars found in the Middle East around the Lebanon mentioned in the Old Testament. This has led to the city receiving the nickname of the Cedar City.
Today, Lebanon hosts a number of cultural events throughout the year. Along with celebrations of the major holidays, the city offers the Lebanon Blues Festival, the Lebanon Country Music Festival, the Warren County Fair, Country Applefest, the Horse Drawn Carriage Parade and Christmas Festival, and the Third Friday block party on Mulberry Street.
